ULW x USIM

The proposal for the establishment of Faculty of Dentistry USIM was approved by the Ministry of Higher Education on 15th June 2006. It was the eighth faculty to be recognized among other dental faculties in Malaysia. The pioneer group of 29 students started their academic year in July 2007 and graduated in September 2012. Students of Faculty of Dentistry USIM are selected from one-year-Tamhidi (matriculation) course at USIM with certain qualifications and interviews. What more do we have in USIM? Come and keep the eagle eye on us!

1. Faculty of Dentistry USIM consists of 35 students for each batch and are supervised by Dental Student Club (DSC) and all the lecturers and staffs. USIM graduated students/dentists are considered rare as they had underwent a unique curriculum with the integration of Naqli and Aqli during their five-year studies based on the Quran and Sunnah.

2. 'Fostering a Balanced Professional in Dentistry' is the motto of Faculty of Dentistry. The goal of the faculty is to produce graduates who always believe in the oneness of Allah, are technically competent, scientifically knowledgeable, biologically oriented, committed to respect for human dignity, socially sensitive, ethically and professionally responsible and an effective team member.

3. Faculty of Dentistry USIM is currently located at level 15, 16, 17 and 18 of Tower B, MPAJ Building, Pandan Indah. Each level is equipped with essential equipment for teaching-learning process of pre-clinical and clinical phase such as dental units, x-rays, simulator and dental benches.

4. Faculty of Dentistry USIM empowers the students to indulge in additional Islamic studies along with dental studies through Islamic subjects which are obligated to be taken differently in every semester such as Memorisation of Quran, Fiqh Dental, Tafsir Ilmi, Halaqah Fundamental Islamic Knowledge and more.

5. Additionally, the 4th year students are required to participate in International Academic Visit before graduating. International Academic Visit is a programme held by USIM 'Alamiyyah (International Centre). Students are free to choose any relevant countries to go under USIM's approval. The aim of this programme is to help students build their skills and talent to organise prestigious programmes that will encourage the spirit of internationalisation and allow them to discover more on global perspective.

6. USIM dental students are also involved in organising and taking part in annual activities held by the faculty or Dental Student Club (DSC) such as Seminar Fiqh Pergigian, Dental Appreciation Night, Dentonova (innovation programme), Akasia Seni (combination of dental & art programme), Community Service, Minggu Aspirasi Islam, Rehlah Kembara Rekreasi, Dental Family Day, Dental Sport Tournament and so on. The students also managed to participate in various activities outside the campus especially programmes related to all dental schools in Malaysia like NDIVG, NDSSC, Physiology Quiz and more, where they had the opportunities to meet other talented dental students from different institutions!
